In an attempt to remain current and relevant, American Idol tries out songs from 2010 to now. Did it work? Hardly.
Having watched Idol from its very first season, this is the first season we’re actually dreading hearing the contestants sing!! Week after week, it seems we already know how these singers are going to sound regardless of the song they pick. Talk about predictability!!
We know Colton is going play the camera with his tantalizing eyes as though saying: “Yeah, I’m so hot and cool right?! and we say: “WRONG! NO!!” We know Colton is going to sound like he’s whining & pleading… it gets old. Phillip will be carrying his guitar and singing like Dave Matthews again. Hollie will sound boring & dated no matter what. Joshua, gospel-y & church-y. Skylar will tackle a country song. Jessica will be the little diva that she is and Elise, well, Elise could still surprise us.
STANDOUTS:
Elise Testone
WHO SHOULD BE GOING HOME:
Hollie Cavanagh
Bottom Three:
Hollie Cavanagh
Skylar Laine
Joshua Ledet ??
Skylar Laine – “Didn’t Know How Much I Loved You” by Kellie Pickler
Colton Dixon – “Love the Way You Lie” by Skylar Grey
Elise Testone and Phil Phillips – “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye
Jessica Sanchez – “Stuttering” by Jazmine Sullivan
Joshua Ledet – “Runaway Baby” by Bruno Mars
Colton Dixon and Skylar Laine – “Don’t You Wanna Stay” by Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean
Hollie Cavanagh – “Perfect” by Pink
What a drag. She sucked the life out of this gritty pop-rock anthem song. Where’s the angst? Total mismatch. What was Hollie thinking touching a Pink song and ruin it this way?! Wow. Poor Hollie, doesn’t know what kind of artist she is or what kind of record she’s going to make; so young yet she has trouble being young and being current. She’s so going home…
Phil Phillips – “Give a Little More” by Maroon 5
Hollie Cavanagh, Joshua Ledet and Jessica Sanchez – “What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger) by Kelly Clarkson
Elise Testone – “You & I” by Lady Gaga
