2/29 American Idol Top 12 girls perform for America’s votes! The Standouts & the forgettables (Videos)

Points of the night:

>>> Like last night’s guys performances, the songs sang by the girls are picked by the producers from a list that the contestants had picked for themselves. But as we pointed out, it doesn’t mean anything because ultimately, the producers insist on which songs they sing anyway, regardless of theme. They have no choice but to listen to the “advice” of the producers or vocal coaches.
>>> We thought the girls could be slightly better this year but after watching the performances tonight we have a feeling a guy will win again!!

  1. Chelsea Sorrell – “Cowboy Casanova” by Carrie Underwood
  2. She looked nervous, jumpy and out of breath- towards the end, she sounded ‘lazy’ (like she just gave up performing) losing our interest altogether.

  3. Erica Van Pelt – “What About Love” by Heart
  4. Sounded “throat-y” ; We like Erika and disappointed with this performance.

  5. Jen Hirsh – “One and Only” by Adele
  6. NOoooooo! Not Adele, Jen! This was your weakest performance. Bad call to take on an Adele song and not deliver.

How it TRULY SHOULD BE done: Only Adele could do Adele

  7. Brielle Von Hugel “Sitting on the Dock of The Bay” by Otis Redding
  8. Pitch-y as pitch-y can!! Wow, couldn’t get the notes right. She needs to go home and please send her stage mother home too!! Thank you.

  9. Hallie Day – “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone
  10. A favorite idol contestant choice to sing except that the audience are tired of hearing it UNLESS it is exceptional. This wasn’t. She looked like a movie star up there; reminds us of Kim Basinger– but the singing was mediocre. We like you too Hallie, please pick a better song next time!

  11. Skylar Laine – “Stay With Me” by Faces
  12. Not the best VOCALLY but the best performance of the night! Skylar was on fire! She was very entertaining, in high energy from beginning to end. Tina Turner incarnate. Loved it and we don’t even like country!!

  13. Baylie Brown – “Amaze” by Lonestar
  14. Pretty face. Beautiful. The song is bad. The singing is shaky, just awful through out. She may be going home.

  15. Hollie Cavanagh – “Reflection” by Christina Aguilera
  16. Sweet Surprise of the night! Totally unexpected that she’d deliver a very powerful performance! We didn’t know she had it in her to deliver such sound. Way to go Hollie! Surprised the judges didn’t give her a standing o!!

  17. Haley Johnsen – “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics
  18. What was that?!!! Horrible. The End.

  19. Shannon Magrane – “Go Light Your World” by Kathy Trocolli
  20. Hot, humid and happening– NOT!! This is like watching a bad glee club high school recital.

  21. Jessica Sanchez – “I Do” (Dreamgirls) by Jennifer Hudson
  22. The ONLY STANDING OVATION of the night! Not sure we agree. She has one of the best voices in the competition but she started off too low in this song and we weren’t sure where it was going. However, her phrasing was fantastic and the middle and end were great. Very confident on stage. She could go farther than fellow Fil-Am Thia Megia had gone.

  23. Elise Testone
  24. Hmmm. Another Adele song and the very same song Jen Hirsh sang. We think this is the first time they allowed this- the same song in one night performed twice. It’s interesting Ryan didn’t make a fuss about it nor did the judges compare the two performances. But we know why. Elise was a thousand times better than Jen, there’s no comparison!

Only Adele could do Adele but this was an impressive performance. She made it her own. Sang with such passion and conviction. If you want to know what a soul in a song sounds like, listen to this one:

WHO SHOULD BE GOING HOME:
Chelsea Sorrell
Shannon Magrane
Haley Johnsen
Brielle Von Hugel
Baylie Brown

STANDOUTS:
Jessica Sanchez
Hollie Cavanagh
Elise Testone
Skylar Laine
